Diabetic Retinopathy Screening
Diabetes can damage the eyes before vision changes become noticeable. The Lions of Michigan Foundation’s Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Program helps identify eye damage that needs follow-up care.
Through participating southeast Michigan Lions Clubs, trained operators photograph the retina using a specialized camera. Artificial intelligence analyzes the images for signs of diabetic retinopathy, and people with concerning results are referred to an eye-care professional.
By bringing screening closer to residents, the program supports earlier detection, raises awareness of diabetic eye disease, and helps people protect the vision they rely on every day.
